Staring out of the window on a flight from Las Vegas to Dallas Fort Worth I saw a magic carpet of circles laid out on the earth 35,000 ft beneath me. They are the circles created by center-pivot irrigation which enables crops to be grown in arid landscapes. The circles are about half a mile in diameter and form a fascinating geometric pattern as far as the eye can see.
